Emerging Curators Program
The Mercury launches Emerging Curators Program, supported by Carclew Youth Arts
The Mercury is launching the Emerging Curators Program, supported by Carlew Youth Arts, a professional development and mentorship initiative supporting emerging voices in film curation and programming.
Delivered across two phases from February to June 2027, the program combines foundational learning with hands-on experience, helping participants develop skills in film programming, audience engagement, event delivery and cultural leadership.
The program reinforces The Mercury’s role as a national leader in developing film curatorial talent and supporting new voices in screen culture.
Phase 1: Foundational Learning (February–April 2027)
Open to emerging curators, Phase 1 introduces participants to contemporary film curation through industry panels, masterclasses and workshops. Participants will explore programming strategy, audience development, festival contexts, event delivery and community engagement, while building industry connections and broadening their understanding of screen culture.
Phase 2: Participant-Led Programming (May–June 2027)
Building on their learning, participants will develop and pitch original curatorial concepts. Four participants will be selected to deliver their own public screening programs within The Mercury’s diverse range of programs, supported by industry mentors. Participants will gain practical experience in film selection, thematic development and audience engagement.
Expressions of interest are now open for Phase 1.
Participation in Phase 1 is required to progress to Phase 2.
