Gus Van Sant’s unconventional road movie follows two young street hustlers whose friendship takes them from Portland to the American Northwest and beyond. Blending Shakespearean drama, romance, comedy and dreamlike imagery, the film becomes an intimate exploration of friendship, desire, memory and the longing for somewhere — or someone — to call home.
