‘SONGS STORIES AND A RUST BUCKET GUITAR’

Director Phil O’Brien Run Time 60 minutes Release Date 2026 Language English Rated G

Musical/Documentary/Storytelling

Starring Don Morrison

Turning an old piece of corrugated iron into a great sounding guitar, all to the beat of some rockin’ original music !

Don Morrison has been a balladeer of distinction in Adelaide and beyond for decades, performing and recording a rich mix of heartfelt ballads, rockin’ blues and everything in between. A gifted musician, songwriter and wordsmith, Don is a true original who has always done things his own way, the real deal, and although the years may be starting to accumulate, this flannelette clad troubadour can still rock a pub off its foundations.

In this unique documentary portrait, Don shares a lifetime of stories and original music while revealing the meticulous process behind one of his most famous creations, the legendary ‘Donmo Rust Bucket guitar’.

Starting with a battered sheet of corrugated iron salvaged from an old Riverland fence, he transforms it into a remarkable instrument with a distinctive sound and character all its own.

For years, Don has handcrafted these sought after Rust Bucket guitars using weathered corrugated iron collected from dumps, farms and derelict buildings across the South Australian countryside.

A must see for music lovers, this charming and inspiring film offers a rare glimpse into the life, music, and craftsmanship of one of Adelaide’s genuine musical greats.
