LAUNCH LAB: Creating A Safe, Respectful and Inclusive Screen Industry
- Sat, Feb 15
Run Time: 360 min.
No one should ever feel unsafe, disrespected or excluded at work.
However, the screen industry is known for its demanding nature, with long hours, tight deadlines, and high levels of stress.
With an emphasis on personal lived experience, this workshop explores some of the ways everyone in the industry can work toward creating an environment where everyone, regardless of their position or background, feels safe, respected, and empowered.
Ben Steel, Managing Partner and Founder of Screen Well will join the lab via Zoom to present Navigating A Creative Life – a unique keynote presentation that spans his own life-long creative pursuit. This keynote is an emotional rollercoaster, filled with vulnerability and honesty – but one that will inspire, solidify creative passion, and provide an overwhelming message of hope.
South Australian Intimacy Coordinator Ruth Fallon will answer the common questions around an intimacy coordinators process, and how it can benefit and support a production and its cast and crew.
South Australia’s only Screen Australia Certified Access Coordinator Writer-Director Michele Saint-Yves will explore the vital role of Access Coordinators in increasing and sustaining ongoing inclusion of Deaf/Disabled and/or Neurodivergent (DDN) talent in the screen industries.
And Creative Producer Nara Wilson will speak to cultural sensitivity when working with First Nations people and stories from her lived experience as well as the pathways and protocols from Screen Australia.
This lab will provide the next generation of filmmakers with just some of the many tools to become agents of change, creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive industry for all.
