Script Club with Pete Monaghan
- Wed, Feb 5
Run Time: 120 min.
Screenwriter Pete Monaghan will lead this Script Club, focusing on the iconic Academy Award nominated original screenplay for the 2011 film Bridesmaids; which he will be guiding us through the groundbreaking comedy and exploring its historical context as a trailblazer for female-driven humour. We’ll dissect its genre, analyse its structure, and examine the captivating character arcs, particularly Annie’s, and whether her flaws are relatable or detrimental. We’ll discuss the film’s comedic pacing, the role of the rom-com subplot, and the underlying themes of friendship and self-esteem. And for a unique perspective, we’ll compare Bridesmaids to Sideways, exploring the similarities and differences between these two stories of self-discovery amidst pre-wedding chaos.
Pete Monaghan is a writer, script producer, editor, and comedian. With Ruth Estelle he is one half of Word Ninjas. Word Ninjas create exciting original content and have several film and TV projects in development.
