OCTOBER – NOIRVEMBER – DECEMBER 2025
A TASTE OF TARKOVSKY
Widely considered one of the greatest directors in cinema history, Tarkovsky’s films explore spiritual and metaphysical themes with dreamlike visual imagery, luxuriously long takes and a preoccupation with nature and memory. Here, we screen four of the five films he made in the Soviet Union.
NOIRVEMBER
Is Film Noir a genre? A mood? An approach to working? What exactly makes a film “noir”?
We will explore the idea of film noir through two American classics, two from Europe and a pair of neo-noir films, leaving it to you to decide what makes them noir.
METAMOVIES Vol.1 Guest programmer : David Donaldson
The movies provide a mirror to the human experience, allowing the complex and jumbled events of life to be distilled down to a clear narrative with a beginning, middle and end. But what happens when that mirror is pointed at the camera lens itself?
This program seeks to answer that question through some of the greatest and most self-reflexive films ever made.
